Temple, a city of a little more than 60,000, sits on I-35 about 65 miles north of Austin in central Bell County. Temple is known as the “Wildflower Capital of Texas” but it is also known for its strength as a regional medical center. Between Scott & White Memorial Hospital, the Veteran’s Hospital Center, and other smaller clinics, Temple is the proud home to more physicians per capita than any other community in the nation.
In 2010 the Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood MSA garnered national attention by ranking at or near the top of several national surveys concerning employment. The MSA had the second strongest outlook in the country for hiring, the fourth nationwide amongst all small cities for job growth and was best in the nation among 200 major metropolitan areas for its overall business climate.
Not only a great place to work but the MSA has also proven to be a wonderful place to live. In 2010 residents of the Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood MSA were first in Texas and 13th in the nation for being satisfied with their well-being and enjoying the highest quality of life, and it was ranked third amongst both military metros and medium metros on the 2010 Best Places for Military Retirement list.
Temple Independent School District is a 5A school district with two early childhood centers (Pre-K), one elementary campus (K-3), eight elementary schools (K-5), three middle schools (6-8), one high school, and an alternative education campus. TISD serves approximately 8,400 students and has approximately 1,300 employees. The District has exceeded state and national averages in SAT scores for 12 consecutive years and has received numerous other state and national recognition.
